Hi all,

Thought i'd share my find with you.

I have a bit of a sweet tooth and like to have some sort of dessert after a meal just to curb the cravings.
I found today in my local Tesco that they have the Hartleys no added sugar Jelly and it is very low carb.

Strawberry - 0.2g per 100g
Raspberry - 2.0g
Orange - 0.3g

there was no blackcurrant but im sure it's just as low.

I dont understand how there is a big difference in the raspberry but it's still good enough for me

they are also on a 4 for £1 deal.

i stocked up

Sounds good Lezzles, but just check the ingredients, how many artificial colourings and flavourings are in the jelly?

I am always put off by some of the ingredients that go into these products!

Nigel.
I have been Hartley's sugar free Jelly's for a few years, I even got Dragongirl onto them yesterday ! She loved the Blackcurrant one which I recommended. As for what's in them.......TBPH it's a Jelly and I don't look that far into it. They haven't done me any harm but I do know what you mean. Each to their own.

A simple pleasure.......that's all.

Totally agree with you Ken, if it stops be binging on chocolate etc (and there is high risk of that) then I don't mind a few cheeky additives etc.

I had a look on a pot though and there isn't as much as I though there might be so all in all it's a winner in my eyes.

just need to find the blackcurrant ones now

I'll reserve judgement on that one Ken!

Well that's good news, might check this jelly out myself!

If you need Blackcurrant......look for the sachet's that's what I use. Easy to store in a cupboard.
So simple to make and chill.

I've got nothing bad to say about sugar free jelly. Absolute LIFE saver. I always have a couple of packets in th ecupboard for when the sugar cravings start!

Mmm, i love jelly, the sainsbury''s near work have stopped stocking the ready made ones though

Are the sachets ready made or just sugar free :?:

My son accidentally put my ready made sugar free jelly in the freezer instead of the fridge - I like them chilled but come on!!!

Anyhow I tried it frozen to see what it was like - it made a lovely ice lolly - although far far too big- I assume because of the gelatin it made bigger ice crystals and was more like a shop bought lolly than the ones I used to make with squash and water. - made some in lolly moulds with sugar free jelly powder and they worked great.

Next time I am going to make the jelly and add cream cheese as the cheesecake recipe and try freezing them - maybe make a type of icreamy lolly? (although these will have more calories obviously) - will let you know my findings

Patch - I totally agree with you there, I have such a craving for sweet stuff after I have something savoury and it drives me mad.
I just spoke myself out of getting a chocolate bar out of the vending machine at work and had a jelly instead and I feel surprisingly satisfied!!

Lovinglife - You will definately need to let me know how the cream cheese idea works out sounds brilliant.

Carol - the sachets are just a powder that you add to water and chill. The blackcurrant is fab mixed with the orange.i discovered this by accident.

Another one from my mother in law - chopped cooked beetroot in balckcurrant jelly is wonderful with cold meats - honest! - make the jelly up with only half the water though and when you pour it on just enough to cover the beetroot

check these jellies if you buy the cube type that you add water because the carbs per 100 change to the ready made ones in the pot , especially the blackcurrent and lime one for some reason. then check the ones that arent sugar free and look at the carbs jees louise

The packet ads on the blackcurrent sachet suggest adding some fizzy drink or something to the water when making it up to one pint. I thought of trying it with diet coke but decided to do my first one "neat" so to speak. I made it do three helpings altho you could munch the lot technically. As Ken says, it's fab. I am about to go shopping (a 60 mile round trip from here in the sticks) and believe me, several sachets will be added, along with the single cream to wash them down! I might also try putting some blueberries in - if I stick to my usual 16 blueberries as a portion I don't foresee a problem, and it might be interesting. I made it in a measuring jug as there is no one here at present to see me pig my way thru it
Is anyone else sitting on a brilliant dead-low-carb secret?

For the lo-carbers - try making the jelly with 1/2 cream, and 1/2 water. Comes out like a mousse and is lovely...

We used to call that Kentish Cream when I lived in a more civilised county as a young Girl Guide! Typical camp fare, made in washing up bowls to accommodate the quantity!

Now that sounds yummy. I eat jelly nearly every day so it would be nice to have this as a treat at weekends. Thankies

We've got tons of raspberries and grapes in the garden at the moment. I blitz some in the processor and squeeze/pour the juice into a pot and heat. Add 1 leaf of gelatine to about a cup of warm juice to make 2 small but delicious jellies, topped with blob of whipped cream of course. Not just sugar-free but sweetener-free.

But fruit contains natural sugars.

The sugar in Berries has verry little effect on BG. Strawberries, Raspberries & Blackberries are all on the menu for us lo-carbers! (Blueberries are touch and go - some can handle 'em, some can't).

Whole berries in the jelly as it sets is a nice touch...
