Hello all. I'm glad I found you. I was diagnosed about 5 weeks ago and this site has been so helpful and practical. On the advice of members, I bought a monitor and am testing regularly, clued myself up on low gi foods, cut down a bit on carbs (I portion control anyway), don't really have a sweet tooth and so far, results are great. Readings are good and I'm now 8lbs light than when I started - only 1 stone to lose! Best of all, my energy levels are now brilliant and I no longer feel stressed and tearful all the time. 2 months ago, I really thought I was losing the plot and would have to give up work.
I was in Planet Organic yesterday and got some stuff that looks like it belongs in a hamster's cage but is more than ok. Dr Karg crispbreads, Amisa spelt puffs and Super Foodies brown granola cacao nibs and maca - a spoon of this in the spelt puffs with a little sprinkle of stevia is pretty darn good and makes a nice change to my normal egg based breakfast. All have very low sugars from carbs. Anybody else tried them? I'd love to know what you think.

I would stick to the eggs..

Well done on weightloss!! Are your blood levels improving too on a daily basis?

I'm glad your BG is coming down, if this new breakfast helps with staying LC, go for it :)
you might also enjoy other LC cookery recipes around the place. As you would have found, looking up diabetic recipes is a waste of time

Did you test after those new foods? Only way to tell if they are ok for you.

Thanks all. I do appreciate the advice. I haven't been following diabetic recipes Jack. Yes, I had a look and I can't see the point. Years ago, I did Weight Watchers and soon found out there is little benefit to trying to follow an artificial programme. My weight wasn't too bad to start with. I've always cooked from scratch, follow a mainly Mediterranean diet and never use convenience foods so I was pretty ****** off to get this diagnosis! I also have a bunion after a lifetime of wearing good shoes and gum issues despite going to the dentist every 6 months. If I ever come back, I'm going to wear stupid shoes and eat **** because what will be will be!
Dawn, I am being very cautious and applying the principal of low carbs as well as low GI across the board and it seems to be the right way for me. From what I read on here, there doesn't seem to be one way that suits all? Tests are fine but I am enjoying the new foods in very small portions. I do like carbs but apparently, they don't like me so we'll just maintain a distant friendship! Weighed myself this morning and I'm actually 10lbs down on my start weight. Every cloud and all that....

Hi, @CaBos :)
You would have to be very Wealthy to purchase items from Planet Organic, as their shops are in London + "their shop on line" is not very competitive.
Well done with your good control and loosing some weight.:)

:)
Firstly very well done on taking immediate control. Never tried any of the above. I did try no rice rice ,it was disgusting . I changed from Breakfast cereal to Quinoa . Prepared in a microwave like rice, just with water. If you make a batch up you can use it as a substitute for rice. But I prefer it for breakfast with Honey and Cinnamon added. I buy mine from ASDA it is cheaper than a health food store.

Congratulations on your weight loss and control. Do keep us informed about how you go with these products. I made a cheesecake the other day with a base of almond flour, chia seeds, light agava and butter.....it was good!

I do live in London but I only go there occasionally. It is expensive but hey, these are just for me. Waitrose and Sainsburys do the Dr Karg crispbreads too.

Sounds lovely! Thanks for your kind words. I also bought some almond flour at PO. Now that really is expensive!

Thank you. I did have about 5 mins of denial but had a bit of a word with myself! My sister-in-law has also been diagnosed and seems to think the whole solution will be substituting brandy & diet coke for her usual cider. Hmm! I haven't been brave enough to try honey yet. Stevia is fine. I've been making some amazing fruit compotes with a tiny bit of Stevia and a handful of raspberries/blueberries/mix of both to go with Total 0% Greek yogurt - quick, easy and so much better than anything you can buy. My husband can't tell the difference and he loves sugar.
:)
