Has Anyone had side effects from Fenugreek

Hi I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in November 2012. At the moment I am receiving no treatment until blood tests repeated in May. I have been on the Xpert Programme which I have found very helpful, I have tried the Fenugreek Capsules, 2 after every meal. I have found that they have upset my stomach, but was willing to put up with that, but then I experienced headaches, and now my eyesight is blurred, has anyone else experienced problems with Fenugreek. I would say that my GP does not agree with anything the Xpert Programme Experts have discussed, and I feel as though there are conflicting ideas on treatment.
All I seem to get off my GP is "we will give you a blood glucose monitor but definitely will not give you the strips" even though the Xpert Programme said I should be monitoring my bloods. Feel very confused.

Hi,

I don't know about the Fenugreek capsules, But headaches and blurred vision can be due to high blood sugar(probably along with lots of other things)

I would recommend buying your own testing equipment. Im on very limited supply from my doctors and do supplement it myself. I can't afford much so I got the SD Codefree which some people say does read about 1mmol higher but works if your trying to figure out what foods give you spikes.

Good luck.

IMHO reason GP will "give you" the monitor is that the suppliers give them free and it does not cost him anything. Ask yourself:
1) does he squeak when he walks? (if so he is just "tight" )
2) does he give you ANY good advice/support, if not are there any other GPs in area that you could join instead.
If you still want to persevere with strips at this GP, try try explaining what you have learned from XPERT and say you need to use the strips to find what your "best" diet is to control/reduce your BG (say for a couple of months until you stabilise.
I note that you are still on diet & exercise so strips would cost you for prescriptions so some of the cheaper strips could work out cheaper than a prescription.

Hello,
Its easy to feel like you're not getting anywhere isn't it.
I admire you're tenacity.
Initially i could smell the fenugreek from the pores on my skin, such as under the arms, faint but noticeable as i rarely sweat with any odour.
This has now passed and i asked close friends ti observe any change, such as odour or breath but I've had no problems.
Sometimes it can also make you're urine smell.
Its important to know it may not work for you, Cinnamon for example does nothing for me.
Listen to you're body and if the side effects are persistent stop taking it.
Fenugreek works quickly so that may be an indicator, but tell you're Doctor.
Are you getting a balanced diet?
Could you be vitamin deficient? Consider a vitamin D supplement for example,.
There are other alternatives to fenugreek if you wish to research them, such as gymnema sylvestre. ( this is often touted as side effect free-but nevertheless check).
Diet plays a massive role.
Again though seek medical advice first, there could be a number of reasons you're feeling like this and it's better to stop the akternative meds and get yourself feeling better.
Or hopefully isolate what the problem is.
If it helps you, I take Diabetone ( vitamin supplement) fenugreek, then i take or alternate acai berry or African mango.
I don't eat anything processed or remanufactured, such as ready meals, and i avoid all monosodium glutamate and hydrogenated fats/oils.15 mins exercise daily.
Happily I'm still med free, but under no illusions, i regularly test my blood sugar and have twice yearly cholesterol and hb1ac tests.
If my body changes, or gets worse I'm fully prepared to do anything I have to to feel better.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Just checked SD codefree, from Homehealth UK, on amazon and 50 strip tester kit is £12.99, 100 strip refill 13.75.
Sorry cannot help re fenugreek
Good luck.

Thanks to everyone who answered my queries, I found it all very interesting and will definitely start testing my blood glucose regularly even though the GP told me he did not want me to. I will buy the strips myself. I must say that this recent diagnosis has affected me more than I thought it would. I am determined to do my best "myself" to ensure I get the best information and treatment I can. Many thanks again to all of you. Sue :D
