Has anyone taken the Coursera Diabetes - a Global Challenge course before?

I found it while looking through all the courses on their website, and am considering taking it (it is free after all!). I'm interested in what you thought of the course, if you've already taken it :)

It's run by the University of Copenhagen, and has 7 leading professors covering the topics, starts at the beginning of September.

It has been mentioned on the forum before. @phoenix was doiing it and a few others. Might be worth sending her a pm.

would ove to do it too but i am starting my ILM in spetemeber which is quite intensive. Done think 2 would be a good idea.

I've signed up for it :) From what I've read on here, it's the doctors and researchers in countries outside of the UK who're giving the good advice (I'm sure I read somewhere here that Sweden's got a really good system for diabetics), and all the doctors sound as if they're not from the UK! I am short of time, but I figure it's something I should do my best to make time for, even if I can't complete any assignments or tests.

@Mud Island Dweller I'm considering the toxins one too, thought it looked quite interesting.

I enjoyed it, it depends on what you are looking for. It wasn't a structured course. it was more like a series of expert guest lectures. It was interesting to hear about some recent research ( I was particularly interested in the lecture on stem cell therapy)
Some of the lecturers assumed that the audience had a good background knowledge and this probably wasn't always the case.
I think there were places where the course could have been better. The subtitles, which you can download ,were very poorly transcribed and not corrected by the team. (a real problem to people with English as an additional language but I still had to go back and check what was actually said at times ). I do hope that they do something about this for the next presentation.
The assessment doesn't really matter to many but I like it to be challenging, questions that make me think rather than just spotting the answer from the lecture. Some courses manage that, this one didn't. There was one 'peer reviewed' assignment which I found OK but otherwise it used straightforward , multiple choice 'quizes' with immediate feedback and several attempts. ( so very easy to get 100% )

Their English far outstrips my Danish:) and it was easier to understand than an Ikea instruction manual:nailbiting:

It wasn't the lecturer's English which was fine. I suspect they are quite used to lecturing and writing in English. It was the transcripts which I think needed a bit more human intervention. There are always some errors in these but this time there were many, some hilarious but others that may have been confusing. I think that they were right to assume some background knowledge since the course states it's aimed at people with some background in biology or life sciences. but there were obviously people who found it difficult and I know that there were a some who were looking for a more basic course and said so in the forums.
