Hi my doctor says i'm boarderline diabetic so I bought a monitor and have been checking bloods every morning for a week, there is more than 8 hours fasting. The readings have all been over7 to 7.7. Please can you tell me if i have diabetes as doc still not positive.

Has the Doc sent you for a Hba1c? It's the only way to tell if you are diabetic.

No I don't think so,just fasting overnight then early morning test done by the nurse, she just says lose weight(but she says that even if you have a headache!!)

Hi. The standard tests for diabetes are the GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) or HBa1C; the latter blood test measures a 3 month average and the GTT the current state of the body. I would avoid doing fasting test as they aren't that useful for T2s and as the liver normally dumps glucose overnight (the Dawn Effect) it can confuse what you are measuring. You are better doing a test 2 hours after a main meal and seeing what the levels are and also what foods are affecting you. If you are noticeably below 8.5 on the 2 hour test you are certainly not too bad but only the GTT/HBa1C can really diagnose you.
