Have you ever tried to "fix" it

Hi everybody

I was just wandering how many of you guys have tried to "fix" t1d and search for the "holly grail" when first diagnosed? I couldn't help but wonder whether there is indeed something we can do in the honeymoon period, when pancreas slightly recovers and starts working again, to reverse the condition? I guess these thoughts are just a part of me still getting to grips with my son's diagnosis, but I think all the time about if there REALLY isn't anything we can try to do about it??

Is it that people when told they have t1d and doctors are pretty straightforward about it being uncurable and for life, just go on and accept the insulin, diet ane excercize regime and never give another thought about possibility to ever explore further?

I can partly blame my obsession with information and reading about all these new studies trying new stuff that makes me wonder so much..

I would really like to hear your opinion on this...
thanks and hugs

Hi @Natt I too went through exactly the same thought process when I was diagnosed, however I was fortunate early on to get enroled into Type 1 research at Bristol hospital for a year, so got to meet specialist doctors and could ask any question to my heart's content. The bad news was that there was nothing I could do to prevent/delay/reverse the process. I was informed that by keeping good controlled blood glucose levels that I could pro-long the honey moon period, which is what I aimed to do and still do to this day.

The best advice I got early on was to learn and educate myself as much as I could, by developing your knowledge you are the expert and managing this becomes easier.

The Net is full of false promises and hopes, I think it's only natural to search for an answer even though it isn't always there..............especially when an illness/condition effects a child whom you love more than the world.

The treatment of type 1 has come on leaps and bounds over the years and I'm sure the best is yet to come, when a cure of sorts becomes available I'm sure we will all here about it. Take care @Natt
