I am currently trying to get my BG level in the normal range, have got them from over 20 to between 7-10 with diet and exercise. I am having about 24 carbs at 8am, then about 20-25 for lunch at 12noon. most of the day if I am a bit active I have been getting fairly good bg = between 6.6 - 8, however in the evenings, if I have a meal at 5pm with about 20 carbs max, my bg goes up to about 12 and then seems to really struggle taking 3 or 4 hours to come back down to 8 or 9, so today I thought I would drop dinner and just have breakfast and lunch and then I thought that my BG level would definately drop to between the 4-7 range. So last time I eat was 12 noon. at 2pm it was 11.3 post food, then it went down 3pm 8BG, then at at 6pm 6.8 and I thought oh this is going really well, apart from being starving, I thought I would finially get it down to 4.7 range but then I took it at 7pm and it was 8.6! and then at 7.20pm and it was10.2 and seems to be on the way up!! I am at my wits end here. I am eating a really really strict diet and now am not having dinner and the BG is going up? can someone understand this. I can eat less than nothing. this is so hard.

hya,
if you miss meals youre body can do a liver dump which ultimately rises your bg, what type of diabetic are you? do you take anything for it?
hope we can help :)

Hi
If you skip meals then your Bg will go up for a couple of reasons!
If i miss a meal that is not often nowadays then my bg will go up!
The more active you are the more glucose you burn then if you don't eat something your liver can cause a dump into your system this is turn will raise your glucose! As this is when your body is screaming for help!
The other reason i think i am sure i will get put right on this one by the people that know alot more than me!
depends on what you are eating and how you are eating it! I know if i skip and my blood sugar drops then i eat something this will cause a spike in bg as your body reacts to any food being put in it!
i am unsure of the term i hope this helps!

oh sorry i was last told i was borderline but this was ages ago and i think things have got a lot worse since then. was feeling really bad, and then did the readings and were above 20, so the last 2 months have been on a very strict diet lost about one and a half stone (still got loads more to loose) and am not on any medication at the moment. i am trying to get the reading in the good range myslef with diet. but it is all so bloody hard to understand I feel like giving up trying. dont wanna be a downer but its just too hard too restrictive, and now like I said the bg is going up on nothing. there seems to be so many interacting factors i dont think I am ever going to understand it. i thought that by an extremely low carb diet diet and a will of iron I could get where I want to be but its not looking that way, basically to put it frankly does this mean my system is completely ........................ I would appreciate to know the truth of what I am trying to deal with. I do appreciate anyone that responds.

hya red,
some people need medication and i suggest u see your gp straight away as while your numbers are high it can be damaging your body, if youve tried everything then tablets may be the answer :D

Okay Red
with readings of 20,
It is important that you go back and get checked again by blood tests!
Have you had glucose intollerence test at all?
if you have not then it would be good to ask for one from your gp!
With 20's not a good idea, even now if i was you i would go and get checked out again!

thanks totsy, I am trying everything but I have only tried everything for a short period of time about 6 weeks, so do you think things could improve if i carry on for longer, and if I loose another 3 or 4 stone. i dont really want to get tablets unless it is the last resort.

i would definately go see your gp, you could maybe try lower carb too, most gps let people go 3 mnth on diet and exercise, im type 1 so cant really say if it will work but plz see the gp and do it under their care, then they can also check your cholestral etc too :)

my gp is an ****, he doesnt listen at the best of times and is very dismissive, he has already siad you dont need to test and dont need testing strips and he doesnt listen
