i was diagnosed april 2016 with type 2 and was put on 1500 metformin daily with diet advice and have successfully lost nearly 2 stone, after about 7-8 weeks i started having intense bouts of constipation/ diarrhea and trapped wind, so went back to the docs and was given the slow release metformin. been taking it for about the same time as the first one and its starting all over again. did anyone else have this and if so what did the doc do next?

I've no direct experience of Metformin but from my time on these forums I've learned that some people just cannot get on with either form of the drug. Worth going back to the doc, there are different approaches but Metformin is (I believe) one of the cheapest diabetes drugs and is often the first one tried.

Same happened with me although I didn't take it for anywhere near as long as you. I stopped taking it and drastically cut my carbs. Blood results in my signature.

I just started Metformin ER (slow release) a month ago when I was diagnosed, 1500 mg daily. So far it has worked spectacular, a few soft stools but otherwise no problems. Did make me nauseous for the first few weeks. Numbers are beautiful so far. I have found that the heavier carb meals have caused the few issues I've had. There are other medicines to try, this is the first one most offer.

Hi. Some people can't tolerate any Metformin. It doesn't make a vast difference to blood sugar anyway so just focus on carb reduction and possibly adding Sitagliptin etc

I am another that could not tolerate Metformin. I stopped taking it. Speak to your diabetic nurse/doctor and discuss the alternatives.

Yes, I did, the same they put me on the slow release one, it definitely didn't stop it but it wasn't as bad , my body seems to have adjusted to it after a few months.

Standard Metformin gave me really bad indigestion and bloating no diarrhoea though but it also suppressed my appetite a lot My doctor changed it to 500mg twice a day of the slow release one no more bloating or indigestion but appetite never really gone back to what it was so I lost some weight I didn't need to. As far as BG levels my morning BG has been lower since I have been taking the Metformin
