Hello all

Does anyone know how much having a cold in the week before having an HB1aC test can affect the results? Mine was a bit higher than expected recently but I had a streamer preceeding it.

Thank you
Mimi

It shouldn't have had a great deal of effect, this is where a HbA1c conceals what is actually going on.

I have had an illness for 2 1/2 months and just had my HbA1c done. It had gone up by only 3 tenths of a point despite readings as high as 19 and as low as hypo land !!! Don't worry about it.

As we have discussed on a previous post, the hba1c does not give a true insight to the overall control. Daily monitoring and recording is a more accurate means to determine control, as hba1c does not account for the peaks and troughs often experienced by many, as your example proves.
