Hi everyone,

This has probably been asked, but I've just been to see the nurse, who did a Hb1AC test. But oddly the 2 previous tests I was told to fast, but not for this one.

Is this correct that you don't need to fast for a HB1AC test?

You don't need to fast just for the Hba1c test, if you are getting your cholesterol checked at the same time and they want a full lipid breakdown then fasting is necesary.

it depends upon what other tests were being done with the blood they took on those previous occasions.

I agree with the above. Fasting is not required for HbA1c.

Until recently, I always fasted for cholesterol testing but at my last appointment, I wasn't asked to fast (it was an afternoon appointment) and was told this wasn't required.

(Don't know if this was a different test, a less accurate result from the same test or something else but didn't care too much as I have rejected the cholesterol/statin hypothesis so the reading is irrelevant to me.)
