Hello Everyone,

At the start of December I had a small Stroke and was diagnosed with T2 diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol. Sometime later I was told that my mmol was 107. Since the Stroke I have been taking Metformin 500mg twice a day, have lost just over 2 stone and given up sugar and refined carbs. I haven’t seen my GP or anyone except the Practice Nurse when she did the blood tests.

I have just had the results back and mmol is 55, still quite a bit above normal range. I want to speak to GP but can only get a phone appt at end of March. Am I expecting too much in 3 months or this about what I should expect?

Sorry if this is a daft question!

You've brought down your average blood glucose from 16.5mmol/L (A1c 108) to 8.8mmol/L (A1c 55) in 3 months !!! that's amazing.
Remember your BG would have been slowly reducing over these 3 months so that 55 includes many weeks of high readings.
My guess is you're already there, keep doing what you're doing & your next A1c should be non-diabetic.
Big congrats.

That is a fantastic reduction both in weight and HbA1c. You are well on your way to a further reduction in blood glucose levels. Congratulations!

Oh wow! Thank you so much!! That’s given me renewed impetus to crack on and beat this

With such an amazing reduction in just 3 months I think you've already cracked it!
Like @Ronancastled said, your last hba1c is the results of your blood glucose of the last 3 months, so it includes the higher BG of the earlier period.

For more finetuning you could use a glucose meter to test before and after meals to see how that particular meal has affected you.

Yes, it had never occurred to me that this is measured over 3 months and isn’t just ‘now’! I’ll certainly look into getting a glucose meter, I’ll have a word with the pharmacist.
My main concern is my feet because I’m an avid hiker and I’ll do whatever it takes to protect my feet.
