Hello,
i’ve been T2 for around 7 years. When i was first tested and diagnosed my reading was 71.

With medicationnsbd watching everything i was always around the 48-54 mark. Due to covid i wasn’t tested last year and this year i could feel i haven’t been quite right but also haven’t changed anything.
My test the doctors have just done has showed my blood reading to be 82. This is quite a jump and i’m wondering if my pancreas is shutting down with producing insulin and if i will have to inject.

Thoughts?
 
There are two basic mechanisms at play in T2D. Insulin depletion and Insulin resistance. Either of these changing will affect your response to glucose. What medications are you taking currently?

Has your weight increased any, or has your girth increased? Volume increase means that your pancreas has to output more insulin to cope since it is directly related to BMI. This is one reason why doctors try to encourage us to lose weight.

The diet you are using may be contributing to driving up insulin resistance (IR). Even portion size or increased fruit consumption can affect this. Do you follow any particular diet plan, or is it the standard diet with icecream and cream cakes on the naughty step? Many here find that as T2D we are very sensitive to what we eat.

You do not mention any self testing, but I bet if you were to invest in a glucometer, then you would be surprised at how different meals affect you. We call it Eat To Meter, and it is the best investment I ever made. It opens a window onto how your body reacts to certain foods. You may find you could actually reduce or stop some of your medication just by altering your diet. I did, and my HbA1c tests are in the low to mid 40's for seven years now. There is plenty of informtion in this forum on diets that others here use to do the same.
 
ive been put on Gliclazide twice a day to take alongside my normal metformin which i take 2 in morning 2 in evening.
anyone familiar with this drug?
 
Yes I am using it and feel comfortable with it. I had an HbA1c of 106 and i was taking 4x80mg of it along with 2,000mg Metformin, and Actos at the time. I also took the opportunity to try out the Low Carb Diet. Within weeks I was reducing my medications and now I am only on 40mg Gliclazide a day. So for me the diet was the main influence. But Glic even at 40 mg will drop my BGL by a couple of points which means I don't hypo but bring my sugars into line after my evening meal. And I am still a driver.

Even when i did hypo, it was mild because I was still controlling my own insulin which shut off as I reached normal levels. So I was in no danger and remained in control at all times. It is also an easy drug to reduce since it needs no prolonged weaning off period and the pills can be easily split to give half doses.
 
I strongly advise that you invest in a bgl meter so you can detect or confirm low sugars / hypo since that is a real possibility with Gliclazide.
