I've been to see my doctor this morning, following the bloods that were taken a couple of weeks back by the nurse who had a go about not eating enough starchy carbs or taking my statin. My blood glucose was just under 8% in March and is now 5.9%. My LDL is up a little, but he said I could expect that for the first few months of a low carb weight loss diet. He's given me a prescription for a different statin which is Pravastatin, which I may or may not try, I'm still thinking about it. My triglycerides were very low.

He told me not to worry about what the nurse had said and to carry on with what I am doing. I have lost 13 kilos since March too. I asked about the 600 calorie diet and he said that visceral fat is the first 5 - 10% lost on a diet (which is said to be the most beneficial part of the weight loss and then the graph of benefits starts levelling off), so losing fat from around the organs will go on any weight loss.

I'm pleased with my results anyway 8) (slight undertatement  )

If you quit Simvastatin because of side effects then Pravastatin is worth a try.
I was a zombie when taking Simvastatin but so far (touch wood) no side effects from the Pravastatin.

Simply stunning result I would say.
Doesn't really sound like your doctor thinks you categorically need a statin, does it? Excellent that he/she understands with weight loss comes an initial rise in LDL which generally drops once the weight loss slows down.
I took courage and refused the statin after problems with Lipitor and got the result I wanted and one the HCPs were happy with by low carbing.
Go you!!
