Hi, just joined the forum, I was diagnosed type 2 in summer - can anyone tell me whether I should fast before my next HBa1c test? does fasting affect the result? Many thanks

Anything short term, ie a few days, before the HBA1c test won't affect the result much, besides, why do you want to 'trick, the test result? The idea of the HBA1c test is to get an idea of how your diet over the preceding 3 months is affecting your haemaglobin and, if the count is too high, to adjust your diet.

Depends, if it is only a hba1c, no need to fast, especially if test is midday. If test first thing would skip breakfast, and only drink water as they may want to do a fasting reading also.

Hi, it wont be just HBa1c, it will be cholesterol, kidney and liver function and hormones and at my surgery they do the test before 10am, not trying to trick the test result at all, just wanted to get things right :)

For cholesterol and triglyceride results I have to fast - if it's just the HBA1C then no need to fast.

Oh I see, it's not just an hba1c test. The Lipid Profile is a fasting test so if you are having trigs done, yes you should fast. If you were to say, have a greasy spoon breakfast, that would raise your blood lipids very quicky.

LFT for liver and U&E for kidney function are not fasting.
