I had my diabetic review in April and was very disappointed at 62:arghh:. So I made my mind up I was going to get it lower. WoWo Ive just collected my latest result 54. Im amazed and so pleased, :) but today... I was at a friends house when she brought out a plate of mince pies. I love mince pies but my determination to keep going and lower my hba1c further kept me from having one. To stop her from being disappointed I said i would take one home for later. She asked why not eat it now, my reply was cos my sugar would hit the roof which would mean taking insulin.to stop that happening. I wasnt sure how much I would need and I was driving home soon. I wont risk having a hypo while driving. She said I was thinking to much, looking forward to far. I was stunned at her comments, she is usually so supportive. Am I overthinking???
Sorry for the long story just feel I need peoples opinion please

I don't think you're overthinking things too much at all. Is your freind Diabetic? Does she face the same risk of complications?

Well done on lowering your A1c and well done on sticking to your guns, keep it up.

You're not overthinking, you were right to keep your own health and safety in mind. Healthy people don't know what it's like to have to walk on eggshells.

Ps: and well done on your HbA1c as well!

Certainly not overthinking, @parrotlady. Your condition, you know how to manage it, evidenced by your reduction in HbA1c. Well done.

It never ceases to amaze me that some 'friends' seem to want to disregard health conditions, and want us to take risks with our health. I no longer offer an explanation in such circumstances. Just say 'no' and keep on saying it until they get the message.

I think someone here posted recipe for low carb mince pies. Perhaps have a go at making some for your friend?

Thanks everyone. I have such a sweet tooth so its always a fight not to indulge. It just knocked my confidence. There is such a lot to think about. What you eat, when you eat, what you are doing for the day and tuns of other stuff. It helps to have people who know how it is.
Im going to have a look for that mince pie recipe Pip. Thanks

Well done - and just stick to your guns! Your health and safety is far more important than someone else's (unfortunately in this case somewhat ignorant) opinion.

Reading this I am absolutely lost for words. How could you not eating roast potatoes spoil everyone's Christmas - unless they were really horrible, and because you weren't eating any it meant they all had to eat more of them!!

Lol maybe, I am rarely dumbstruck but I was at that, the comment actually spoilt my christmas day for sure, I didnt want to be there after that

It would have spoilt my Christmas day also and I would have felt exactly the same as you did - that I didn't want to be there.

Hi Parrotlady, you are definitely NOT over thinking! It is your health you are thinking about and to be honest, I don't know how she has got the cheek to criticise you, would she say that to a person with an allergy? You are allergic to carbs basically. You say she is normally supportive but does she actually know what it all entails for you, why has she brought out the mince pies???? It's almost like those people who know someone is on a diet, then brings out the cakes and says 'one won't hurt, go on'. It's almost as if they want to ruin that person's diet to make themselves feel better. Next time, just refuse one. When the biccies come out at work (which is every 5 minutes), I just shout 'Are you trying to poison me' in a friendly tone and then everybody laughs because they know what I'm like. Your friend should know what you are like. x
