HbA1c increase

So my HbA1c was 52 when my diagnosis was confirmed at the end of August, 2 months on I have reduced (but not cut out carbs) and am taking daily gentle exercise (its been a long time so I have followed the C25K program). So it was a surprise that this week my HbA1c came in at 71. To be honest I was expecting similar or slightly lower results than August.

Is this to be expected? I have started on Atkins diet today with 20g of carbs and will continue with C25K but I am a bit frustrated. As reported on another thread I have had a couple of big spikes 32mmol/l but no ketones. I have an appointment with the DN next Friday, so will see what she says.

Such a rapid rise in hba1c and the very high numbers you're occasionally seeing despite adjusting your lifestyle would be enough reason for me to push for a referral to an endo.

This is not an expected rise if you've lowered carbs, T2 is usually slow to progress.
Not all T1's get ketones when they're high, especially not us LADA's who keep producing insulin for a while.

Thank you, this is what I was thinking but didn’t want to over react. I will take my blood sugar journal with me when I see the DN.
