I spoke to my diabetic nurse today and she said that my HbA1c levels were soaring at 98. Can anyone tell me what this means please? Many thanks.

Daibell said:Hi. Yes, that figure is far too high so the Gliclazide should help. It's very important to review your diet and get hold of a meter such as the SD Codefree which has low cost test strips. Keep the carbs down and low GI using the meter to tell you which foods affect you most. Are you young and perhaps not overweight or the opposite? Sometimes younger patients who lose weight unexpectedly at diagnosis may actually be late onset T1s so do come back to askmore questions if you fit this category; otherwise hopefully with the diet and meds your HBA1c should reduce nearer to the recommended guideline level of 50'ish or below.
