Can somebody tell me what an Hba1c reading of 56 is the old way please. This is my fathers current level, his gp has said this is good control but a heart speacialist he sees has said its poor.

Yes, your father's reading of 56 is 7.3% in the old units. I suspect his GP is trying not to worry him too much. If he is on insulin or one of the insulin-promoting drugs doctors prefer people to be slightly higher than those people on no meds or just Metformin.
