hba1c repeat test

Hi Nic - it's easy to say "don't panic", but really don't - please.

Get your formal diagnosis, then read up on here, there is so much wonderful advice.

Personally I would recommend Low Carb, a Full Fat, I've tried every diet out and believe me I was getting fatter by the day.

I was diagnosed in March this year, and the very unhelpful locum doctor said I'd need a miracle to reduce my diabetes without meds, he reluctantly gave me 3 months to try and deal with it myself - and I am, my progress is in my signature.

I still have lots of weight to lose, probably another 3 stone at least, but I can't tell you the difference I feel in dropping that first 2 stone.

Get a BG meter, I had to buy mine, and learn what you can and can't tolerate, you'll surprise yourself and those "medical professionals" ;)

Your a1c is prediabetic but not something major, I am sort of in your position with 1 kid and only 33 and was diagnosed at 32 but my a1c was 142 and fasting of 16 so my figures were way too high but in 3 months I got it down from 142 to 47 so it's possible, don't worry just keep a lookout on the forum, see what people eat what they avoid as this forum is so much better than any doc or dn you would come across as we are all dealing with diabetes on a daily basis in our daily life and not just read from book and say this all has to be done like the doc and DN does.
I don't know what your bmi is but I suggest you get in a healthy bmi, low carb does help in loosing weight and keeps bg's in check too. All the best.

Wow did she ever overreact. Mine was 100 on diagnosis and I remember the look I got from the a&e nurse but to be honest finding out I had diabetes was the best thing that ever happened to me. I changed my doctor after my 3 month check because I had brought my Hb down to 52 and thd doctor told me "you are doing great but you will end up on insulin one day"I thought stuff you no I wont. Ive been following the LCHF diet and it is great I never run out of energy, my BS is always in the 5s and I get to eat great tasting food.

Hi all. Just a quick update and to say a big thanks to all for the advice. I had another hbac1 test, my first since being diagnosed as 'pre diabetic' and it's down to 33.

I have been LCHF based on all the reading on here and it's really working plus I've lost 2.5 stone so far. Lots to go but at least on the right track thanks to you guys.
