Just a post to get a moan out of my system but my HBA1C was 7.5 today which is up from last time. I was expecting a better result I have to be honest as it seems I spend most of my life adjusting basals and working hard to get numbers within range. Two years ago, post pump, I would have been mightily pleased with this result and the consultant was ok with it. She said it will fluctuate up and down as life is not just as straight forward as getting under 7 all the time for some people. She also said that with the complications I've had recently with other issues this is good. So I feel a bit better about it already having written this down!! I told her that testing was my lifeline and it does really give me re-assurance (I test a lot). She said once I'd seen a cognitive behavioural therapist about taking things more in my stride my testing could be reduced to 4-5 times a day. I had to say to her that this would not be possible as you test pre and post meals/food (6) before (and during) driving (4) and when I feel hypo or am ill so 10 is my minimum. As my husband works away quite a bit I also test more then. I was surprised when she suggested this amount of testing with a pump!!

Hi Riri

4-5 times testing on a pump, No Way. James is like you and continually tests, more so when he is away from home. Does tend to be a bit more relaxed with his testing when I am around but still when carb counting and bolusing you tend to test before meals, 2 hours after meals and before bed. Maybe text books say that but reality says no. He too needs the reassurance.

James' HbA1c was 6.8 this time which is the best it has been apart from when only on the pump a month he came down from 7.8 to 6.3 which the consultant and myself thought was a bit too low too soon. So we are all pleased with the result this time and coming to nearly a year on the pump, things are going good.

Best Wishes and keep up the good work

Yvonne

Low carb is, in my opinion, the only way to go to get better control of bg levels. It changed my life. It doesn't have to be drastically low carb. I also found that once my bg levels improved I was able to resist high carb "treats" as the effects were immediately obvious and not just part of general erratic readings. I completely agree with the visualization process. Your brain interprets visualization as you having actually physically done the thing. So imagine yourself pushing away that snack and opting for something better for you. You have it on you to succeed. It is in all of us to be self destructive and do things we know will harm us but it is also in is to be strong and love ourselves. Treat yourself the way you would treat the person you love most im the world.
A tip I was given when I had to lose weight was to regularly say to myself.
"I can say no. I am saying no"
Stay in touch here and you will find all the support you could ever need. If others in your life want to make negative remarks just ignore them. Their attitudes are their problem not yours.
You deserve the very best of everything and that includes good health and an end to the vicious cycle you are in.
Sorry if I'm being to dogmatic but am in a rush today but just wanted assure you it can be done.
Look after yourself amd please let us know how you are getting on

Um.....I was told AT LEAST 4 tests a day and I definitely do way more than that! I waste 2 by just checking before driving each day!

Try not to be too bummed out with your result. It has only gone up slightly since february and from the sounds of it (your reference to complications) you've done a good job keeping it at a reasonable level with a few challenges!

I agree with Thundercat that low carbs is helpful. I am at about 30g a day and this has really helped to get my Hba1c down from in the 7s to in the 5s. However, I am awaiting the latest result so we will see if they have managed to remain in the 5s or if my holiday has derailed them a wee bit

Keep up the good work - you can do it!

Very sorry. I posted my reply on the wrong thread. Must seem very inappropriate to you OP. Meant to post on "kick up the bum please" thread. Having a slightly manic day. Apologies again

Hia all, thanks. Husband took me for celebratory afternoon tea as he thinks 7.5 is good too with everything else in the background. Feel a bit more relaxed now and ready for the next few months. Had an e-mail from work this afternoon too (on a day off) to say that I'd been accepted for the voluntary early release scheme they're running. Very pleased and excited about it

Pleased your feeling more positive and relaxed now Riri
