Hi,
I was diagnosed October last year, with a Hba1c of 81, went down to 74 then to 61 then to 60 then back up to 74
I have lost 4 stone 2lbs I was 17 stone 7 I’m now 13 stone 5. I am aiming for 11 stone.
My doctor has just rang me saying well done on my diabetes control and said my Hba1c has come back at 43. She has taken me down to 1 gliclazide a day now instead of 2. And said on my next blood test I may come off gliclazide altogether, But she said it’s a bit 2 low. I’m confused now as I thought anything under 53 is considered good.
Any help would be appreciated

Really well done, @Dudette. Excellent result on your HbA1c.

I assume your doctor is worried that a low HbA1c means that you might have hypos (as glic can cause you to go too low). Once you come of all your gliclazide, this might no longer be a concern.

Personally I’d say total rubbish. Why on earth would 43 (still in then prediabetic range) be too low? The only reason as far as I can see is the assumption that is commonly made that the only way to achieve low hb1ac’s (averages remember) is if you are having a lot of hypos. If you are getting that figure without hypos it is indeed excellent.

Ahhhh yes I have had a couple of hypos, thank you so much for your reply, feeling pretty good about it and myself. Been a while since I felt this happy

Probably less likely to have hypos now the glic has been halved. Hopefully you can maintain te good numbers and come off the rest which would then remove the risk of hypos from it completely

Here is to hoping
