Hello again,
My first HBA1c was done after my heart attack ( bloods done 2nd week of Jan) and came back as 81 so Doctor wanted to do another test to confirm Type 2 after 2 weeks, however, I have been back in hospital ( sandwiches or nothing!) since then and only was able to really look at my diet and start testing since I have been home in the last 3 weeks. Overnight in Hospital again this last weekend and they did another HBA1c that has come back at 69 - while I know this is still too high should I be happy with the fact that it has come down from 81 to 69 in the last 3 weeks? I am eating clean low carb and testing first thing and then before and after meals and last thing before bed to get an idea of what is going on - not that I really understand yet.

It does take time to get your head around things. Keep on with the testing and congratulations on your lowered hba1c.

Thank you, is it good that it is coming down or should it have come down quicker with low carb/ no sugars?
I really want to avoid any more meds if I can - I am on enough already!

Your HbA1c is an average of 3 months's worth of blood sugars, so it would still count the weeks prior to your low carbing. Which means you've got an excellent result right there. If they do one again 3 months from now it would be quite a bit lower. So well done you! Hope you're feeling alright now.

You are going in the right direction so low carb celebration time.

I am on steroids, now weaning off them. The impact on blood sugar was mental. Eventually they gave me insulin to try and control them.

Still on humulin, small dose, but the novorapid is rarely used.

Thank you. I am still having some chest pain at times but I feel it is the medication as all can cause chest pain as side effects! I keep being told to rest but it’s hard for me to sit and do nothing although I am still doing 10,000 steps average everyday just pottering about here.

can I ask why my blood sugar levels seem to go down by up to 2 points after I have eaten? Everyone talks about them not going up by more than 2 points.

I think walking is excellent. It's not too strenuous, but you do keep moving. So take it easy, and "potter about" as long as it doesn't make the chest pains worse.

The rule of thumb is that you don't want your blood sugars to rise more than 2.0 mmol/l after a meal. So no more.... But less or even lower than where you started is perfectly fine! Means your body is responding well to the amount of carbs you put in there, if any, and is processing them just fine if they were present. So you really are knocking it out of the park.
