My doctor added metformin to my medications about 4 weeks ago because my HBA1c had risen from my last test. I do seem to be tolerating them I take 2 a day. Since I started them I have been testing with strips bought by myself and I now have average of 7 for 30 days and 6.2 in the last week, if I can continue at this rate can anyone tell me if this figure will be similar to next HBA1c test which will take place in January?

Hi

You don't say what your last Hba1c figure was. As you have been on Metformin for several weeks I was expect your BS to be fairly stable if everything else stays the same. The relationship between Hba1C readings and BG can be found from a converter on the Diabetes.co.uk website:

http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-to-bloo ... erter.html

but as an example a BG reading of 7mmol would translate into an Hba1c reading of 5.7% which is very good.

Many thanks for your information, unfortunately I don't know what HBA1c reading was last time unfortunately but I am guessing it was higher than the 7.2 it was in the previous test. The metformin seems to be working for me anyway, I will have a good chat with doctor.

Jackalima,

It is quite in order to ask your doctor to give you the specific numbers from your HbA1c tests.

Just ask at the next meeting. Write them down if he/she doesn't offer you a printout.

This will give you more to go on when trying to work out how yiou are doing.

(One doctor's "OK" is anothers "slightly raised" is anothers "a bit high" is anothers "nothing to worry about".)

You can ask for a copy of your blood results ,but for my last 2 tests I have had to sign that I allow myself to take these results away in case I lose them and sue the surgery if any one else reads them  The DN and I are trying to think up interesting ways to word the statement to sign ,it could be quite interesting :!:
