Advice please, joined the board few weeks ago after having taken blood tests at home fastings being around 6.5 and 7.9 and 2 hours after food 8.0 and 10.7 being the highest went for a HbA1c last week and results say no sign of diabeties im very thirsty at night ,very tired around 4pm skin itching am i diabetic or not ? please help me thanks, sue.
 
Did they do an Oral glucose Tolerance Test? If not, try asking for one. Be prepared for a long session. The test takes about 2 hours
In the meantime, cut down hard on your carb intake and see if that helps.

Can't comment on the symptoms as above my pay grade!

Do you know the exact value of the HbA1c result ?

Are you still measuring your BS levels and getting high readings? If you are then maybe prior to taking hanadr's sensible low carb advise just continue eating normally for a couple of days or so and record before and +2 hour readings then go back to your GP and simply ask why you are still getting high BS readings despite having a negative HbA1c. As hanadr says you could ask for a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) which is a pretty easy test for the GP to give. If that comes back with a reading over 11 (I think) he has no option to agree that you are diabetic (again I think).


Did your gp have any idea at all? If not go see a different one, don't just except the level of anxiety and stress you're obviously feeling.
 
Hi thanks for that yes i have been taking blood tests most days for the last 3 weeks ,went to doctors and said i thought i may be diabetic as i am aware of some of the symptoms as my daughter was type 1 . think she sent me just to keep me quiet maybe? but i will go back again ,is the glucose test done at hospital ? x
