HbA1c.

Hi.
I'm type 2 diabetic.. I recently had my 6 monthly HbA1c, and had gone down from 9.7 to 6.3 a drop of about a third,. from the previous 6 months.

My question is what is the average level HbA1c. of a person who does not have Diabetes?

Do you think at some point (with this reading) they will allow me to come off Metformin and try on diet alone?

According to a DUK page a non-diabetic should have an HbA1c between 4 & 5.9%

I think with proper diet and exercise it might be possible, my nurse hinted the same but it's maintaining that intensity that's the problem

I stole this from another web site.

"Red cells live for 8 -12 weeks before they are replaced. By measuring the HbA1C it can tell you how high your blood glucose has been on average over the last 8-12 weeks. A normal non-diabetic HbA1C is 3.5-5.5%. In diabetes about 6.5% is good."

As to coming off Metformin, they will not give up easily so expect difficulty especially since your Hba1c is above normal. They may agree to a trial period.
