Hbac1 40 - doctor said I'm ok and that was it

Hello - just returned home, all i can think of is food.

Many thanks all, you are all very helpful but please do not fall out on my behalf as we are all here for the same reason

I worked in the community with sick people and only too aware of what diabetes can do hence my actions and hoping to avoid diabetes.

I'm going to have a whiskey, one double and one single as i have just learnt that the lager/Phils I drink has carbs but whiskey does not.

Lots of help here and useful info and tomorrow I'm going to make notes re foods and look them up

Thank you all again and enjoy your weekend.
Just a thought, if you are changing from a highly processed food diet, from my experience I found that my salt levels dropped too low, giving me leg cramps. I now add salt to my meals, but I think I am still below recommended levels. It would be as well to check other micronutrients such as potassium and magnesium.

Thank you and thank you all again.

I have thought about that and will keep an extra lookout for this.

All help appreciated.

Update: I fated and deter one of those meter tests at a chemist. Ate last night finished eating 2 toasts buttered, 2 boliled eggs and coffe at 10-30pm - took test at 9-50am this morning. Reading was 5.3. As you may recall the Hba1c was 40 a couple of months ago.
Over the last 2 weeks and 6 days I have lost 6kgs.

Please advise/views all helpful, thanks

Btw, I take B12 injections every 12 weeks, vitamin D dailiy, omeprazol and now weigh 75 kgs with shoes clothing and half wool coat and always take weigh in that last three weeks.

I think you should look for a better bread - I use a superseeded loaf that is lowish carb but which also provides me with fibre and the fortified vits. Hint: I freeze it first, then toast from frozen and this transforms the starch into reistant starch that lowers the sugar spikes. It is filling, and even my daughter who is very picky now prefers it to 'normal' bread I no longer buy white bread except when visitors are expected.
Nice tip about freezing the bread first.

Incidental my Mrs works at a company that supplies Lidl and Iceland with ready made meals.

A little research on Resistive Starch should show articles for not just bread, but rice, potato and other starchy food. If low carbing then it is a set of neat tools to know about. It all helps

Pre freezing bread and keeping in the freezer also stops me from indulging in a sandwich when looking for a quick snack. Also having two slices of toast from frozen for breakfast and giving crusts to the dog helps!

Re banans, I will start having a smaller one from today.

Bananas are one of the worst fruits for diabetics, thay are very high carb. Better to stay with berries only as they are much lower in sugar.

Re bacon, love it espeically the smell but too much salt and new that its bad for you put me off but i still eat susages once a week

If you start eating whole unprocessed foods, you will find that you actually need more salt in your food. Don't believe all the rumours you hear about bacon, either! Your body actually needs sodium to aid in vital physical processes, one of which is not least the chemistry of the heart......it's actually essential.

ripe ones are the worst, so choose greener ones over black. Most tropical fruits are a poor choice for low carbers.
