is a score of 86 on this test high as i got a call from my doctor. i have had the eye test and has come back normal but he said i have taken a nose dive when it has come to this test
 
Hi Jason,
Yes, it is high.
I was 50 on diagnosis which is two points above the diabetic threshold of 48.
42-48 on diagnosis is considered prediabetic. Below 42 not diabetic.
Once one is diagnosed they tell me at the surgery one cannot be undiagnosed. It sounds as though you will need meds?

I recommend you get a meter and find out what spikes you after a meal and cut down on bread and potatoes and eat low GI.
The weight will drop off you as well.

I've lost two stone and had to work hard getting my hBa1c down to 45 from 50.

this is my third one the first was 57 then 41 then 82 i eat potatoes and fruit in my diet and have a sweet desert now and then and have sweeteners in coffee and have cut fast food around once every 2 weeks and have ready meals around 3 times a week
 
It does seem you have taken a nose dive, as your doc says! You did extremely well between the first and second, so what changed after that?

I am new to all this, but from what I have learnt on this site is that you should be avoiding potatoes, cutting down on fruit (berries are fine), cut out the fast food and read the labels on your ready meals to check the carb/sugar/salt content. Someone more experienced will be along shortly I expect.

Something must have changed after your second test. Have you any idea what it is?
 
because i was doing so well they reduced my dose of metforming from 2000 mg a day to 1000mg i have to wait until next month to see practice nurse and see what happens from thee
 
OK. Well sorry but I'm not on meds and have no experience. I hope someone else comes along with some advice.

Adjusting your metformin dose would not have in itself had such a dramatic effect on your hba1c. Did you change diet, exercise levels? Did your weight increase? Did you have other medical problems? If none of these, then presumably it is the diabetes itself that has developed --you might not be straightforward T2. Whatever the cause, your hba1c is way way too high and you need to review how your diabetes is managed asap..
 
i am seeing the practice nurse on march 4 and talk through what happens next . my dad was type 1 and my mum was type 2 so i want to keep it in check as my mum who was type 2 ended up on insolin
 
i was supposed to see the practice nurse last week but he was off sick i have sickle cell trait and my mum was type 2 but ended up on incolin and my dad was type 1 so i dont know weather that has any impact on me.as for my diet it has stayed the same and i cycle every where apart from if the weather is relay bad
 
Hi -- I'm no expert, but I would have thought that you need to be tested for possible LADA ('type 1.5') as soon as possible. Take a look at the LADA section of this forum - there are also posters there who can advise you further.
 
ok will do thank you . i will also see if i can get a earlier appointment with the practice nurse
