Headaches and Dizziness

Hi All,

I have had Diabetes now for 2 months and I have generally excellent control according to my DSN and Dietician. I have a meeting with someone at the hospital on Friday to get a new meter where you input your carbs and it works out your insulin requirements etc.

Anyway over the past couple of weeks I have been getting a lot of headaches, and also I have noticed when I stand up from sitting down I have been getting a lot of light headedness/dizziness "The same kind when you stand up too quick", but it's been quite regular, although usually happens of a night-time and wondered if anyone knew a reason for this? I check my blood when it happens and it is always between 4.5 and 8.

Thanks
Steven

I had those symptoms and was diagnosed with type2,. Seems its too many carbs can set it off - or the wrong carbs.

Steven,

Could be/couldn't be diabetes related...... so if I was you I'd get these headaches and dizziness checked-out by your gp.

Hi Stephen,

I get this but it's linked to low blood pressure. So many things can cause headaches and dizziness. Speak to your doctor about it. I'd also suggest keeping a diary to show what foods your eating, sugar levels, activity etc as it could be related to one of these. Hope you get it sorted soon!

Good control could be bringing your blood pressure down. It often does apparently. Mine dropped from 130/85 to 115/70.
Also, good control can change eyesight for a while, can cause headaches.

I too get this but mine is definately related to blood pressure, I have postural hypotension which means my blood pressure, which usually runs about 80/52, drops too low when I stand up. I would definately advise a GP check up and possibly get a home BP monitor to keep a regular check on your BP.

Hi.
My dad has low blood pressure and suffers the same symptoms.
He was getting up after sitting or lying in bed/chair too quickly...
Was shown and taught to sit and let blood pressure settle first .
Then he could safetly carry on doing what he needed to do.
Hope this helps?
