Hi all

So I've got a raging headache. Bursting out my skull sore (unfortunately not that uncommon for me) I ate lunch at 11.30 taking 2units insulin and have had 3g carb snack since. I'm in honeymoon period.

I'm about to jump in the car so tested my blood - 8.1mmol/l this is a little high for this long after lunch for me.

I've got a multitude of questions - is my head sore from the BG? Is the BG high because I don't feel well? Are they completely unrelated?

But what I really want to know is do you ever learn how to tell the difference?!?

I dont get head aches for lows or any other time, so pretty easy for me to know I'm heading upward...

This headache has been with me 6 days now. Ranges from thumping to just niggling.

Does anyone else suffer from this sort of thing? I can't decide if its diabetes related or something else so I don't know if I'm meant to go to the doctor or just suck it up and get on with it until it shifts!

Go to doctor, felt the same this week got appointment next wednesday. Easy to blame sugars for other ailments, get checked out to be safe, hope ur better soon

I'm debating glasses. I had some, but 2 weeks before diagnosis my eyesight was "magically cured". Will call doctor on Monday if there's no improvement. If I'm ok at the weekend ill call the optician because it'll be the screen causing problems

I had the opposite problem, for a few months after diagnosis I needed "temporary" glasses while my eyes adjusted to normal sugar levels to read small print. After 3 months on insulin and more normal levels for a period of time no longer needed glasses. Was told at diagnosis not to get eyes tested for at least 3 months after starting insulin.

Yup I was told the same, that's me at 3 months now! My eyes have fluctuated from distance to reading then back to distance glasses..... And now none for 4 months lol I've never had eye sight headaches before but it's the only real explanation I can come up with!

Worth getting checked out then lol, specially as its been a while since diagnosis.

Nothing to do with high BG, all to do with dodgy eyesight! Completely wrong prescription and a muscle imbalance thrown in for funsies. New glasses in a fortnight.

Glad to know it is completely unrelated!

Glad u sorted it, hopefully the new prescription will help alot :)

I suffer bad headaches when i have very low BG i get very tied when my BG is very high every 1 is very different so better going to the doctors to have it checked out good luck

Had new glasses for 5 days now and no help..... If anything the headaches are worse!

My DSN has suggested night hypos might be to blame. I haven't done testing through the night recently because my morning BG is always working 0.5 of my bedtime BG so I thought I was fine. I will be double checking now!

Has anyone else had that? Big coincidence that the corresponding rise is back to my BG starting point!

Many people [myself includeed] get NO symptoms if B varies a bit.
Any headache lasting a long time needs the doctor, not just the optician

I'm not even varying anymore. Sit between 4.5 - 8.5 and only had 1 hypo in a month (or one while Ive been awake anyway)

I've always been a headachey type person, migraines were an issue format years! But I cut out caffeine 2 years ago and that seemed to sort it, until now.

Ill test for night time hypos and if that comes out no ill have to go straight to the GP. As if I didn't spend enough time with doctors recently as it is :S

Sorry its not helped hale, just a thought, are u on any other meds/tablets and possibly its a new side effect from them? If not get your doc to refer u to a specialist. Hope u feel better soon

Nope not on any other meds. Things like dreich weather could set me off with headaches in the past but the great sunshine we've been having surely can't be to blame lol

I'm generally very upbeat about my diabetes but its hard to stick a happy face on about that when something as simple as a headache can knock me down and it's probably not even related! At least my BG has levelled out again

Might be the sunshine, not had it for so long probably a shock to your body lol. Same as you though, the littlest thing like a constant headache makes everything very difficult. Deffo see gp and explain. Maybe having the glasses will help in the long run as it might take longer for everything to adjust and relieve some pressure. Might be worth asking the optician for his opinion on that.

Well it did start after a weeks holiday in the sun haha

My sisters have suggested posture, she knows someone with a similar issue who had to spend a fair amount of time with a physio to sort it.

It's definitely not night hypos - it appears my night control is pretty perfect haha
