Hi all, just wondering if anyone has had same problem with children and hypos. I know headaches can be caused by bg's being too high or low, but my son has throughout the year had periods of getting a bad headache followed by rapidly dropping bg's, usually resulting in a hypo about an hour from onset of headache. Today it happened again and when he got to 4.2 I gave him 3 gluco tabs which took him to 6.4 but then he keeps falling to about 4. Whilst I know these numbers are good, if he doesn't eat or take glucose at these lower bg's he hypos. It always happens when he gets these headaches, any ideas anyone?

Hello sorry to hear of your son's headaches, hopefully another parent will be along with some help. I know I get a headache with a low ( hypo) but that's after a hypo. Could it be his age, is he a teenager with hormones flying everywhere? or taking other medication or possibly needing to reduce his Insulin? I hope you can get some help soon. With best wishes.

You need to get in touch with his diabetes team to review his insulin doses, it looks like he is taking far too much insulin, if you keep a diary take this with you to any appointment or discuss his results over the phone.

Thanks peeps, I don't think it's his basal rates as if he has any less he is high all day. Maybe his morning bolus, I shall try lowering it. Keeping everything crossed x
