Hi anyone else get headache after eating carbs? Not sure if its just me and I'm imagining it, but I do seem to get a headache after eating certain foods. Nurse said she had never heard of it before.
Thanks

Headaches can be caused by dehydration.

If the carbs are pushing your sugar levels up (which they often do to us with diabetes), then that can cause the body to become dehydrated to some extent, and therefore could cause a headache this way.

Your HbA1c in your profile says 11.7% which is high and so high sugar levels as a result of carbs could be causing the issue.

There are plenty of other reasons why headaches may occur though and it's not always easy to work out why they're occurring.

Are you able to do blood glucose tests Dawn?

Some people can get headaches after eating carbs, even non-diabetics. My daughter can get really throbbing headaches.

With dehydration you can get other symptons like very dry mouth, light headedness, weakness, and dark urine.

If you're getting them after eating carbs, you could be reacting to a certain type of carb or food.

I'm drinking about 2 litres a day plus my 1st cup of tea (cant do without that). Will have to keep a check on what I eat, I'm veggie so it cant be much, I'm eating low carb foods.
Thanks for your replies. I wondered why the nurse said she had never heard of it, she looked puzzled.
