Headaches..

Hi Angie :)

The only other medications I am on is Metformin SR 2000mg a day (1000mg- in the morning and 1000mg at night) and I'm on Cerezette which is my contraceptive tablet. My insulin is Insuman basal 8 units at night time only and Novo-Rapid at meal times which varies depending on carbs.. This is the only medication I take for my diabetes.. :)

I have 30mg codeine on prescription for joint pain. I also use it for severe headaches and root canal work! It can be addictive so I use the minimum I need and tend to build up to 4 a day though try to stick to Max of 3. Then I gradually reduce so increase time between doses until I'm on 2 a day and then 1. So far I have not become addicted and have been using them for around 4 years. I will quite often go several months between flare ups so I am confident I am in control and not the other way round.

Have you tried any relaxation exercises - I get stress/ allergy headaches and I find a warm bath and some aromatherapy oils with eucalyptus oil on my pillow helps - not sure its medically sound but if its a placebo affect I'm happy to accept that too.

Try to keep going - doctors in general don't have all the answers so trust your instincts and try to find alternatives that work for you - even if you don't get rid of the headaches completely feeling in control of them should help

Hi Kerry

Your headaches sound very much like mine, when I get them I get them for days at a time, mostly mine come on at night - either in the evening or during my sleep and they are like sharp stabbing pains in the side of my head (always on the left) and then the pain will get deeper and go towards my ear, the next day it still hurts near my neck and below my ear. When you said they hurt your face and neck it made me think of the bad headaches I get. I have been to see a neurologist about mine, my doctor referred me and I got an appointment quite quickly about a month ago. He recommends I take Amitriptyline but it doesn't go well with other anti-depressants I take so I have decided not to, as there is a slight risk of a fatal syndrome!!! anyway if you are not already on anti-depressants and there will be no mix, a small dose of anti-depressant type tablet is supposed to be the best thing. They actually worked for me when I used to get this type of headache when I was younger - but on my right side at the top! The neurologist said that they are migraine headaches and I feel he is right because they are in a certain place and not a throbbing headache at the front like a tension headache or a headache if I'm dehydrated.
I am actually back at the doctors on Thursday to see if he will prescribe me a migraine tablet that is not Migraleve as that did not work.
I am sorry if my bad heads are nothing like yours and I have just waffled on and on. Let us know how you are getting on with the codeine. I took Codeine after my Caesarian and it gave me a really bad head everyday, but hopefully it works for you,if not something has to x

Hi guys.. I have tried all the relaxing stuff my other half brought me some lavender candles and some relaxing bubble bath foam home the other day and lit the candles in the bedroom and ran me a bath and when I got into bed the room smelt lovely and I was relaxed but I still had the headache I've done this a few times since and the headache is still pounding away.. :(

Ever since having these headaches my other half says I've been having night terrors and I'm not even realising I'm waking up! I know I'm having the dream but don't realise I am waking up and crying or shaking.. My other half said he checks my levels and they're fine, (while I'm sleeping) he also said I'm talking to him but I really don't recall or even remember being awake! And this has all been a new thing since the headaches I told the doctor this and so did the other half as he came with me.. (He likes to be there to support me and to remind me if I forget anything lol) but the doctors said hmm that's unusual I've never heard of that.. So hoping it will pass..

I'm not stressed or anything I've been really relaxed as I've not been at work due to it being the half term (I'm a nursery and teaching assistant) I've not had much to do really I've just done the usual house work, exercising, me and the other half have been taking day trips to local places for a walk in the sunshine so nothing out of the ordinary that I don't normally do..

This is such a strange experience! Hoping it will go soon though!

Thanks again to all of you for the support! :)

Samroboli, thank you for your comment! I'm sorry to hear that you have headaches too! The pain I've got is on my face, down my neck, behind my eyes ears and my whole head hurts I feel like I'm carrying a massive bucket of water on my head and its throbbing away, they are constant throughout the day and they do get worse at night.. I notice we have similar symptoms with the headaches thank you for sharing that with me I really appreciate it and I hope you get sorted at your doctors appointment :) thank you so very much again! :)

. Used to have bad dreams - the sort u wake screaming from - the best advice I was given is to keep the room cold ... So now I wear bedsocks and the room is kept cooler.

I was also snoring heavily - not something women usually admit to but I ended up diagnosed with sleep apnoea - if you are a snorer it might be worth checking how well you are sleeping as sleep deprivation can cause headaches. Perhaps sleep on your side if you sleep on your back and see if that lessens the severity of the headache.

Do go back to your GP and update them - it may be the prompt they need to investigate further as you are not responding to their suggestions.

Headaches are miserable - I hope you find something to help soon

Thanks again Cath! :)

I asked my other half if I snore and he said I don't apparently.. I will try keeping the room cold.. At the moment we don't have the heating on due to the summer but now it's getting a lot colder at night now I'm going to have to put the duvet back on the bed as I'm freezing during the nights now..

I've never really found I've had trouble sleeping before its only been since I've had these headaches, I'm wondering if its something to do with the weather as well.. May sound strange but every time the seasons change I get the sniffles or a cold.. So strange..

Thanks again Cath! :)

Hi Kerry,

I have exactly the same problem with headaches except I have had them constantly for years. Doctor has ignored it and nurse has advised me to take a paracetamol. I do take occasional Ibuprofane at night which helps me with sleep but the headache is everpresent when I wake up. I find a good night's sleep always reduces the level of pain and makes me feel better and fresh the next day.

Please keep us posted as to what the doctor says.

Best wishes

Kerry,
Have you tried a chiropractor? You may have a trapped nerve or something. I had a bad neck a while ago that hurt up to my ear. I went for a few appointments and he got my neck mobile again.
Just a thought
Angie

One thing you might try to help relieve your headache is rubbing white Tiger Balm into your temples and across your forehead. Also massage some into the back of your neck.
As for tablets, have you tried Co-codomol? That is paracetamol and codine combined. You can get a small dose over the counter.

I assume that you have been to the optician and that your eyes are OK?

Tiggsy57.. I had my eyes checked not so long ago when I had my screening done, I've never had any problems with my eyes but knowing my luck I'll develop something else.. The doctor looked at my eyes when I went to see her on Monday.. She said there is no pressure behind my eyes.. But I think I'll go and get an appointment at the opticians just to be safe :) thanks Tiggsy57! :)

Also the codeine hasn't been helping with my head so I took one codeine and one paracetamol this morning I felt telly rough this morning as I had a low during the night 4.1 it's the first low I've had in months and really messed me up..

AngieG I haven't thought of trying a chiropractor I've never been to one before.. My nan keeps asking me to go with her so she can get him to look at my back as every now and again my back gets stiff then I lean back and it all cracks and it feels really good.. I'm pretty sure that the problems with my back is from years of dancing.. My back never has been much of a problem but I might aswell see one for my back and neck and sort it all out in one go :)

Thanks for the advice guys! I really appreciate it! :)

Hi, hopefully your headaches have stopped now! I always get headaches after hypos or hypers, I call them hypo/hyper hangovers because it feels just like one! I do suffer with migraines unrelated to my diabetes though to the point that the pain makes me cry sometimes.
One thing that I've found really helps is having my OH rub the base of my skull where it joins my neck, the top of my neck and around the base of my skull to my ears. Even when the pain isn't actually in those locations. I'm always surprised how much tension is there, sometimes it's like someones flicked a switch and I feel so much better so quickly.
Just a thought anyway.

Hi Kerry, no worries it's not easy to find time to sit on the internet is it, I really struggle to reply to people. I hope you find out what they are, I think mine might be hormonal, the doctor suggested it as there seemed to be a pattern of them being at the beginning of each month, except this month they lasted about 10 days!! Luckily they dot last long in the day. I was surprised and doubtful that they are hormonal though as I am on cerrezette the pill that you don't have a break or periods on, but the pill could be the cause of them, frustrating when I've found something that suits me!! x
