As from April 2014 healthcare for people with long term conditions may find that their care has gone to private providers. This article from Pulse explains the reasoning behind it.

You could find that BUPA is looking after you. Here are their articles on diabetes care.

This article from the Guardian is well worth a read for people who like to know how much their care is costing the NHS.

I agree with the first comment in the first article that it's privatisation through the back door, how this will impact on the quality of care people receive....only time will tell.

My last eye test was done by a third party and my current DN is employed by virgincare in the diabetes centre at our local hospital. I have not noticed any difference to what I,received prior to this.

This is very bad news. Farming out NHS services to private providers does not work. I personally have experienced this first hand and know several colleagues who have lost their jobs in the NHS through contracting out of services. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but all I can say is educate yourselves and look after yourselves because these private companies are only out to make a profit - they are not there to look after your health.
