As its a start of a yet another new year i thought i would do the 'new year, new me' thing and make a fresh start to try and improve myself (getting into shape) and also my type 2 diabetes. I am on humlin injection & metformin but only recently started the metformin again as i hate taking the tablets but made a new start, but what im wondering is what can i snack on as im a bad man for hitting the biccy tin and i want to ween away from goin to the tin and nibbling on biscuits.. i work 12 hour shifts.. days and nights and i need or would like a healthier snack choice to have instead of eating the wrong thing's.. can anybody please give me some advice.
Thank you

Those of us on a low carb, healthy fat (LCHF) find that we rarely need snacks because the fats (and protein) fill us up and trains our bodies to consume our own stored fat as needed. You could look into approaching you problem this way, but, as you are using insulin, you would need to be very careful not to overdo you your doses and end up going hypo. Take advice!!
However, returning to your question, could I suggest cheese, hard boiled eggs, pork scratchings, an avocado, nuts, seeds.

Hi @MikeA37 - have a look at this thread https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/th...althy-alternatives-which-work-for-you.129982/ Also, have a browse through the Food, Nutrition and Recipes section - there are really fab ideas there, and some that could substitute for your biccies. Lots made with almond flour, like lemon shortbread which could be a great substitute. There may be those that say you don't need snacks, but given your work hours good subs may help, and it's up to you. Good luck with your resolution!

Hi sally ok il take a look into that thank you... and thank you sue for the info you've given me thank you.

If I want a snack I don't have to bolus for, I eat salad. Some days I eat 2-3 bowls of it! I usually have cucumber and shallots, sometimes with tomato or carrot (not too much since they have more carbs than other salad foods). If you want something a bit more filling, add meat, cheese or nuts to your salad.

You can have celery sticks with nut butter - it is very tasty and different, low cal too, I also make chai pudding - just some chai seeds soaked in yogurt or milk flavoured if you like and topped with berries of your choice

Interesting idea but I do bolus for yoghurt and berries :( Agree with you about celery, I sometimes have it in my salads.
