Heart attack and stress don't mix

It's not a single tablet that causes this, but an accumulation of the drugs over a period of time. Statins can cause liver problems, and all statin users should have a liver function test a few months after starting them, and hopefully annually thereafter but this NICE guideline has recently changed according to my hubby's surgery.

I then lost it and demanded a blood sample be taken straight away or I will call the local paper and have this put in next week's publication. My blood was being drawn 2 minutes later:D.

lol it's amazing how a suggestion of exposure to the media suddenly causes jobsworths to jump into action ...

High ALT is also an indicator of a non-alcoholic fatty liver condition for which excessive carb intake can be a cause.

I am not 100% sure on this, but the triglycerides are not counted as cholesterol. The LDL is usually estimated from the balance/deficit of the others. None of mine have ever added up to the total and I don't think they are intended to. There are other elements that don't get recorded.

Total blood (or serum) cholesterol

Your total cholesterol score is calculated using the following equation: HDL + LDL + 20 percent of your triglyceride level.

I asked the receptionist if she could tell me what the problem was and she just said no but if I hung on a minute she would ask the GP. She then came back with "She can't discuss the matter over the phone, but she will let you know what you need to know after they have taken another sample and when you come in and see her". We then made a date for the 26th.
I think it's bloody ridiculous that they are allowed to play these cloak and dagger games with people. I am going to look into who to complain to as I did notice a complaints procedure notice hanging up in the surgery.
Thanks for your reply
I maybe very wrong in my thinking ....but as you are not required to be seen tomorrow , that things we hope are going to be ok ....
Please don't get stressed , you must not worry to much , easy for me to say I know after you have been through so much ...
I agree that you could ask for a phone call back from a gp to get more details ....worrying and not knowing why is awful ....take care Adrian

Seriously Adrian, do not worry. Anytime I have bloods done and anything is of concern my GP phones me to come in and discuss but they do not like breaking news over the phone.

I have just checked out a website regarding Alanine aminotransferase level, (ALT) and found this......................

This blood sample was taken at 8:45 am, just 45 minutes after I'd take my medication which included aspirin and I had an Atorvastatin late on the night before.
I wonder if that had anything to do with it.
High ALT, AST levels can be caused by alcohol too.

Just teasing lol, am sure your 6pk cold ones are nearly done Adrian lol ?:p

Oh Adrian looks like you are going threw it at the moment, like others have said try not to worry to much easier said than done, hopefully all will be well.x
