Are you on any medication, or are you controlling diabetes by diet and exercise alone? Diabetes itself doesn't cause palpitations, but they can be a side effect of the drugs that are sometimes used to control it. Palpitations can also be a sign of thyroid disease - and that is one of the many possible complications of diabetes, so if you haven't recently had a thyroid function test then getting one done would probably be a good idea. If you have had a full blood screening done recently (probably when you were diagnosed) then it is highly likely that a T3 test was done - and that would probably pick up on thyroid problems.
Alternatively, there are lots of other causes of palpitations that have nothing at all to do with diabetes. Usually they aren't serious, and sometimes they can be very easy to fix. For example a really common cause is an adverse reaction to caffeine - try giving up coffee, tea, coke etc. and see if that makes any difference.
