Hello,
Will start by saying my diabetes is classed as Syndromic but Treated as T2 (it's not MODY) likely involving partial lipodystrophy which I know is rare which I think might be part of this. I recently went to A&E and was admitted to hospital as my ketones were high and my bicarbonate was very low with hypertriglyceridemia. When my blood sugar was low my ketones were high and vice versa, but my doctor did not seem too concerned about that. I was put on both long and rapid insulin to treat my high lipids. We currently believe there might be a link to a biologic medication called Skyrizi I am taking with making the lipids so high as there are other cases but it's hard to prove but that is being paused. Prior to Skyrizi I could control my blood sugars and lipids with a keto diet but that has stopped working since (it would be my aim for it to hopefully work again on a new biologic).
My issue is I'm experiencing awful acid reflux on insulin, which has happened in the past in 2019-2020. Even with taking two prescription max dose medications for GERD and things like gaviscon and pepto bismol it does not stop it. Stopping the insulin quickly resolves the issue (within 48hours). It took many months for me to realise it was the insulin when it first happened and I was no longer able to eat or function which is why I'm fairly certain it's the cause again. I have informed my diabetes nurse who told my doctor but I know it is unheard of. I cannot even find anyone online who has ever experienced this so thought I'd at least try here too. I did swap from injecting into my stomach to my upper thigh which has reduced the intensity a little but not by much which makes me think it could be related to absorption. It did not bother me for 4 days in an IV into my arm either. I know high blood sugars can cause GERD but again it goes away when I cease insulin treatment even though my blood sugar goes up. I see my doctor on the 21st and have been told to persevere but it's already making me lose sleep and I'm not hopeful seeing as I seem to be the only one!
