Hello everyone, i've been lurking on the sidelines for a while now, just plucked the courage up to join you all, my wife and i have type 2, we where both diagnosed in the same week, just been reading andy A post, i can identify with you andy, my doctor and nurses have encouraged me to eat a lot of carbs, and over the last three years my readings have got higher and higher, plus, i've gained a lot of weight, this morning i was realy shocked when i saw my bg level was 22, i've decided to take the advice of a lot of you on here, and go for the low carb option, i've mentioned this to my nurse on a few occasions, and she has warned me against a low carb diet, but i'm determined to try it, heres hoping.

Hi fork, glad you have seen the error of doing things the NHS way  , it really shocks me that they keep on giving out this information about high carb low fat diets when it clearly not only doesn't work, but is also dangerous to the people they are supposed to be helping, my father's a type 2, diagnosed in his mid 60's 3 years ago, told that there's no need to test his blood glucose and to eat plenty of carbs, in that 3 years I've watched him go from someone who was always active and happy to someone who sits in a chair most of the day looking miserable and constantly saying he is feeling ill (never had a day off work sick up until he retired), I cant get him to test his blood at the moment still but I'm constantly nagging him on diet and exercise...

There's loads of advice on the forum on low carb diets and some decent recipes, look forward to seeing how you get on with it and what improvements it makes...
