Hi everyone: I am new here and I just wanted to introduce myself. I come from a family of diabetes my mom dealt with diabetes for over forty years, and her mom died of diabetes at a relatively young age due to diabetes. Two of my three brothers are on diabetes medications, one of them needed heart surgery due to his poorly managed diabetes that led to him to a heart attack. All of my three sisters have diabetes and one of them had her big toes amputated last summer due to her diabetes. Five years ago my doctors was going to start me on diabetes medications, but I have read extensively enough about diabetes that I knew exactly the changes I needed to make, so far I have been able to stay away from diabetes for five years.
I am here to let people know that it is possible to achieve great blood sugar control by making small changes. The great majority of people know the foods that are bad for their diabetes. I will encourage you to make small weekly changes and over time you will see improvements. Personally, I don't know how long I can stay away from diabetes medications simply because I don't have control over my genetics but I will continue to do my part to avoid some of the foods that are not good for me.
Best of luck.

Hi @Maurice09 & welcome to the forum :)

A great many of our T2 members (also some of those with T1) have great success in controlling their diabetes with a low carb or keto diet, what is it you do to successfully control yours without medication?

Ive been T2 for 14 years and I use a keto diet of less than 20g carb a day to control my diabetes, still diet only though I do take a small dose of metformin, it’s helps with insulin resistance but also it has other purported health benefits including heart health and longevity which are some of the reasons I continue with it

Hi @Maurice09 and welcome to the forum. Well done for taking pre-emptive action to keep yourself healthy, long may it last.
