Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with type 2 at the end of August. It shouldn't really have been a shock to me as my father and maternal grandmother both have type 2 - I also had gestational diabetes with my 3rd pregnancy, but it still was. I was feeling very sorry for myself for a week or 2, thinking about all the lovely things I would have to give up eating! The day of my first diabetes clinic appointment I also had to take my 14 year old son for a routine teen health check and booster jabs. He had to take a sample of urine with him. I had noticed that he had been drinking more and more and also getting up in the night to have a pee, so asked the nurse to check his urine for sugar. She said that she didn't think there would be a problem as he seemed healthy and not overweight, if anything he was underweight but she did the test as I had asked. She was amazed to find high levels of glucose and +++ ketones. He was admitted to hospital that evening with a diagnosis of type 1. I don't feel quite so sorry for myself now, I can hopefully reverse mine with a healthy diet and excercise he will be on insulin for life.
