Good evening,
I am a 58 year old overweight lady who has been T2 for about 3 years. I have been on a variety of medications in that time, but now take competact, one of the piaglitazones. I also take valsartan for an originally diagnosed high blood pressure, which now measures at normal these days.
I have read a lot of the postings on this site and am so relieved to find like-minded souls who have gone through similar experiences.
I find my diabetic nurse team show me contempt for what they see as my own fault ie: being overweight and no matter what I say, remain convinced that I eat only burgers and icecream, which could not be further from the truth.
I was widowed earlier this year - and I had spent a year being carer for my late husband who had a very aggressive form of cancer - so my own health was not a priority to me for a while. I also work at home full time at a computer, so I am able to schedule in time at the gym for myself now, usually early in the morning. I have been busy re-building my life and re-starting a social life, but suffer great tiredness and lethargy at times, probably due to imbalance of sugars. I do use the strips, but probably not as frequently or as diligently as I should. Again, reading your posts are motivational to me to be more regular with my testing. I am keen to try the low-carb approach and will re-stock the fridge tomorrow to start this way of eating.
I have trod the path of diet pills (very unpleasant and stop working after a while) and have paid for dietician's advice but nothing has helped weight loss long term, but the sense in what you have all been posting comes over loud and clear, I will give it my best shot.
I also have to travel to USA for work, which I find quite debilitating, as my body doesn't know which way is up, waking up in the middle of the night hungry. When I return, it takes weeks to get back to feeling OK again. Any tips on dealing with jet lag would be most welcome.
Regards to you all,
