I have just found this forum through searching for low-carb lifestyles. I am not diabetic <cries of fraud> but I put that down to a healthy low-carb diet, as there is type 2 in my family. Please would someone answer the following question - my older sister has type 2 diabetes and has been told by her doctor that she must have some carbohydrate with every meal - is he right?
I saw that posters have been looking for bread substitutes, and can thoroughly recommend the spinach 'bread' in Rose Elliott's vegetarian book. I have a long list of great low-carb recipes - is there a recipe thread?
Looking forward to reading through the threads on here (but it might take some time!)

Your sister's doctor is wrong of course; where do they get their training. The body doesn't need any carbs at all as it can make glucose for the brain etc from fats and proteins. Some carbs, however are not a problem. Having carbs spread out during the day helps smooth things but that is not the same thing as having carbs with every meal; ridiculous advice.

Thought so! But hey, that's sisters - I'm still the kid (of 63!) who knows nothing! Perhaps that's why 2 years after diagnosis her BS levels are still way too high even on metformin. Thanks for your reply.
