Hello all

My name is Brett and I have had type 1 diabetes for 16 years.
My Hb1Ac has always been in the high side although my general control has been ok, I have never been hospital because of my diabetes but have always worried that by having slightly higher results there could be complications in later life.

Last year my old developed cancer and within 5 months was gone, it shook me up that such a fit and health 52 year old man could be taken so quick.

I have just recently completed the T1IDE course run by my local diabetes centre and I have a new lease of life, suddenly looking after myself and controlling my bloods seems so easy !!

We was given the new Acu check expert meter which once loaded with my dosage per 10g of carbs and my correction dose works it all out for me!

My next goal is to bring my Hb1Ac down to a good level, loose some weight and speak to my diabetes team about the possibility of a pump.

I have joined to get information and knowledge from other diabetics

Thanks

Hi and welcome.
Glad to hear you're recovering from your loss.
Good bunch here.

Hi, I'm new to the site too but had to post as I have the acu check device too and think it's amazing. I Would recommend it to anyone, no more trying to calculate things in my head, it's certainly made my life easier but I'm not sure the NHS would want me recommending it as apparently it's not cheap!

Never forget the NHS belongs to us ... not some guys in suits or banks but to us.
The people paid for it ... not some guys in suits or banks.
The people paid for it and built it ... not some guys in suits or banks but but but ....
Our NHS is being run down intentionally and with lots of lies.
It's ran for sixty years and the last thing it needs are owners buying Bentlys' and yachts and share holders wanting their divi ... that money should be staying in our NHS not going into private bank accounts.
But if I were a betting man I'd be betting that the men in suits and banks are going to steal it from us through convincing deceptions and then it will be their NHS and me and you will have to pay them to use what was ours all along anyway.
Sorry ... rant over ... for now.

Couldn't agree more, I was just saying as they made a bit of a song and dance when they gave it to me, about how expensive it is and that some GPs won't even prescribe the test strips to go with it!!! I think if you asked for one of these monitors though they'd have to give it to you surely?
