Good morning everyone
About 8 weeks into my pregnancy I had the diabetic nurse contact me to start blood monitoring (due to something that flagged up on a blood test 5 years ago).
Due to my fasting blood results, we immediately started diet control which worked for a while and then resorted to metformin when diet control stopped working. That was increased slightly over the following weeks to 2 500mg tablets twice a day. We did try the slow release metformin for a while, but didn't have the same results as I did on the regular metformin.
Last week (25 weeks pregnant) we have started insulin (humulin). I did 3 days of 6 units with my evening meal and am now on 8 units until thursday when we will re evaluate again.
Feeling a bit sorry for myself as it means we won't be able to give birth in the local hospital as they don't have a special care baby unit, though thankfully have been able to choose the hospital closest to where my husband's parents live.
So that's me, just turned 32, newly started on insulin, huge needle phobia and feeling a bit proud of myself for tackling this head on
