Hi everyone, was diagnosed with Type2 three weeks ago. Massive life change all this but seem to be doing OK. Currently on 3 month diet before next bloods then maybe medication if no improvement.
Had to self fund my own BG meter and strips as not entitled to NHS cover unless on medication. Really don't get that as how would people know where they are with levels unless you can test?
Anyway, managed to also get myself the libre2 on free trial so using that as well right now.

I've started walking daily, cut right back on carbs and seem to be managing my spikes but all trial and error learning new things daily. Yesterday I discovered weetabix are now a big no no.

Happy to be hear and get lots of valuable information

I’ve found libre useful to see what happens. Weetabix is fairly high carbs and would shoot me up too!

Hi. Im new too. What made you decide to get a monitor if you don't mind me asking?
To be honest I didn't really find the NHS that helpful. When I was diagnosed I was basically handed a folder and told to read through it and they would be in touch in 3 months for my next blood test. So I've literally been researching 24/7 the past few weeks. I wouldn't have a clue what's actually spiking me unless I can check regularly and saw the libre2 were offering a free trial so thought that's the perfect opportunity to watch what I'm eating and how it effects my body in real time. It doesn't ways tally up to my Blood tests which I'm still doing around 5 times a day, but the libre is good for watching the spikes. I may even go on the libre for another month until I have a better understanding of how to handle this.
I would recommend the free trial to any newbies then literally use it for those 2 weeks to eat and watch what happens in real time.

Hi @signal1979 .

A great start from you .
And an all too familiar tale of diagnosis apathy from docs.

Just to say, for anyone unsure whether to test or not.

We all use the Speedo in our car so we stay within bounds (aka speed limits)

Same for testing.
Can't make changes if you don't know what's wrong , right .

Consider 3 months time, you get a worse HBA1c...mmhh what did you eat that caused it ...?
Nope, not a scoobies.

However when testing, ( eating chips for instance ) test 2 hours later, if you spike ..money says it's the chips .

So you cut them out or cut down until you don't spike, simples

So you make changes today / tomorrow..not sit there clueless in 3 months time.

As newbies trust me, we are all here for you .

We shared that initial confusion & worry of what the heck can we eat now .:wideyed: :arghh:

Google Diet Doctor Visual Guides .

Gave great insight early on as to what to eat & what avoid .

I still tested, but that guide narrowed down the more obvious monsters in the kitchen,
And made my run in to a better HBA1c much easier.
(Plus all the good advice I got on here )

Want a shortcut ?

Cook.

Buy meat that looks like meat.
Veg that looks like veg
Add herbs & spices as you prefer.
Then EAT.

Controls the carbs.
Controls the sugars.

Not always practical I know.
But it's what I do, whenever I can.

Good luck on your journeys.
Don't forget to ask for help.
And there are NO stupid questions.

Trust me, I tested THAT theory extensively when I started ... :hilarious:

I agree with everything jraak has just said. My hba1c’s bounced around for about 5 years until I found this site and tried low carbs with testing and the support of the members. Just toggle my signature to see what happened!
