Hello, Im Alyson, I live in South Yorks and I am 54. I joined because I have had two borderline diabetes blood test results, which the doctor has dismissed, but I have a lot of irritating symptoms. Today, I am asking for a second opinion. Im now going to read as many threads as I can to arm myself with information.

Hi and welcome, you have come to the right place, however what are your blood readings and symptoms also what is your diet like?

Well I wasnt told them, just they were borderline, but squinting at the nurses computer one of them looked like 5.8. I have made another post further down in prediabetes. My symptoms are tingling feet (like they wont get warm after being outdoors), dry mouth, thirst, itchy skin, thrush, feeling wobbly/weak at the knees sometimes before meals, short of breath climbing stairs, and feeling tired all the time. My problem is I really crave sweet things as I feel worn out and have no energy. Since seeing the doctor I have cut my fat intake right down as my cholesterol was high. I have also attempted to cut out as much sugar as possible, even though all the doctor and nurse said was low fat low cholesterol diet. I wouldnt have worried unless I have these symptoms. Also my father has recently been told he is borderline diabetic too. I am overweight, but not obese, have had success previously by joining weightwatchers, but dont want to do this until I have clear medical advice about what is going on. I am not satisfied with "wait and see, test again in 6 months" because I feel so vile I cant do with another 6 months of this..

5.8 seems normal but as you said you only got a glimpse of the screen, some of the symptoms could be your bg is running lower than if has been. So it could be your body doesn't like the changes you have made, you could always get a meter and check things for your self

Hi. Yes, some of the symptoms could indicate diabetes. Ref diet do cut down on all the carbs so that you can reduce both weight and any high blood sugar. Even if not diabetic the weight loss always helps to reduce the possibility of diabetes in the future. The arguments about fat intake and high cholesterol continue. If diabetic, low-carb is more important than low-fat but all is OK in moderation. Keep portion sizes down a bit and have low-GI carbs and good fat such as fish when you can

Hi, you must ask for the full numbers. The receptionist may give them to you over the phone if you are lucky to catch one when it's quiet. Otherwise ask your GP. (ring him). You are entitled to know your numbers, and whether this was just a one-off blood glucose test, or an HbA1c average.
