ManyHi Peterwoo
I'm a fairly newbie here myself too. Pre-diabetic, not diabetic but because I've been reading up as much as I possibly can to find out what's what and how to control by blood sugars by diet. I've also been on a walking away from Diabetes Course (though by the time I got on it I was in a better place to anser some of the other folks questions than were those who were actually delivering the course (office bods not medical pros)
what I came across that stress, both physical from operative trauma and mental stress can really elevate blood sugar levels. I guess its to do with the hormones the body produces other than insulin. It may be that it reduces the production of insulin. There is sooo much on the DUK website other than this forum you that you should be able to find answers to many of the questions that you have.
When you go to the doc or hospital or wherever and you don't get answers, proper answers to your Qs keep digging away until you do. ou may find it helps if you write all your questions down so you don't forget anything you want to ask, but also leave a big enough space to write the answers you get
Hope this helps and hope you have a speedy recovery both physically and bs - wise
