Hello - I'm Claire mum to Freya -age 6 (type 1) - pump

Hello

I am Claire and I have just registered as mum to Freya (6)who has type 1.
Freya's dad is Iain and we have a 3 year old son too.

Freya is a star who was diagnosed with type 1 in March 2007 aged 4,and who deals with her condition amazingly well. We have our moments as we all do, but she has dealt with the daily grind of diabetes very well. We have been fortunate enough to receive funding for pump therapy 6 months ago and it has changed Freyas life.

I have registered to have a chat with parents with children of the same age and also to offer any assistance to parents or teenagers who are considering or who have just started pump therapy.

Welcome to the forum.
I am mum to 2 girls, Caitlin (age 14) and Olivia (age 7). Both are Type 1 and on pumps. Never a dull moment! This is just a quick hello, I am off to bed now, have an extra early start tomorrow, just thought I'd say Hi first.

Hi Claire - I've got two children both with type 1 a boy aged 15 and a girl aged 10 - they both developed diabetes when they were 9 years old. Their cousin, my brothers daughter also was diagnosed when she was around the same age (she's now 12).

None of them have pumps, but I often wonder whether it would help them. If money was the problem, I would get out their and fund raise for them. I would love to know whether a pump would make their lives a whole lot better. At present they all take around 4 injections a day. If anyone can advise on this I would be most grateful. :)

Hi Claire,
I'm a mum to a 10yr old son, T1 3yrs now. Like Orchids children he's on 4 injections a day, often wondered about pumping, though i know he's not keen. Would be great to know what advantages you find with pumping.

hi

just thought i would let you know the cost for the pump i am using. accu chek spirit, luckily mine is through the NHS but this is what i have been told. the pump itself is £2000 and should be put on your home insurance. the pump has a six years life span and in that time it cost about £6000. this includes cannulas and infusion sets and the help and support from the hospital.

i dont know if children can get a pump easier than adults but it is worth finding out
