Hi to everyone, I've only just discovered this website - wish I'd found it years ago.

I'm Lucie, aged 34, and I've had type 1 diabetes for 25 years. I'm currently being assessed for possible insulin pump therapy after having a tough time since having children 5 years ago. I've had problems such as falling into a coma whilst looking after my (then) 2.5 year old son and this is the main reason I'm on here - looking for others who have experienced this. Still not come to terms with it and don't trust myself at all whilst on my own with my children.

Looking forward to hearing from others...

Hi Lucie.
Welcome to the forum.

Have a good look around and if you have any specific questions then just fire away. We have dedicated Type 1 and also an Insulin Pump user sections so they might be worth a good look.

Hi Lucie,
Welcome to the fourm, I can completely empathise with your situation. I fell into a coma in my sleep about 12 years ago, when my children were 5 & 2. I was lucky that my husband discovered me unconscious, and called the paramedics. The psychological effects hit me soon after, I was very tearful and kept thinking about what could have happened. I was also scared to take my short-acting insulin, I managed for about 2 years on Insulatard alone-which was not a good thing to do.
The positive thing is when I did start taking my insulin properly, I never had anything like this happen again, I was very careful and tested loads.
You'll get loads of help and advice on the forum, and hopefully your confidence back about managing your diabetes, and caring for your children.
Jus :)
