Hi, my name is Andrew.
I was diagnosed with pernicious anaemia late last summer (bear with me), and will need B12 boosters indefinitely. At the time my BG level was 6.7. In November I decided to lose some weight but over the following months I thought it was coming off really easily, especially as I wasn’t trying too hard (I made a right pig of myself over Christmas). By February I had lost 3 stone.
It was around this time I started getting thirsty all the time, which was completely alien to me, and so decided to have a blood test. I was called straight back into the doctors as my glucose level was 24.5! I’ve been on 2000 mg of Metformin a day and 100 mg of Sitagliptin. My levels are now between 6.4 and 8.5, with the odd spike when I fall off the wagon (can’t dump the choc completely)!
Funny thing is, I never feel any different, no matter what the level is. The only thing I’m struggling with at the moment is that my eyesight has changed, which is a pain if you wear prescription glasses! I need to wait until I’ve settled down more before I get them tested again.
Having diabetes is a burden, but at least I can wear clothes off the peg which actually fit me now, and I do feel much better overall. Every cloud....
